HIMSS17 Interoperability and HIE Symposium to outline implementation challenges and opportunities
The need for semantic interoperability and exchange of data, information and knowledge across the health system is well known, especially in light of continued adoption of value-based payment models, new health IT apps and standards.
In that context, the HIMSS17 “Interoperability and HIE Symposium: Interoperability and Health Information Exchange – Making It Work,” slated for Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, will outline the opportunities and challenges seen in the new policies, certification programs, apps and coordination required to realize a learning health system.
The day-long pre-conference symposium will evaluate approaches to solve interoperability challenges, explain how standards, certifications and their implementation address barriers to data exchange, outline practical approaches to HIEs, and assess how HHS policies supporting value-based purchasing rely upon interoperability and HIEs.

This session provides an update on progress made by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT’s Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap.
