Union Hospital’s information technology staffers see themselves as part of something bigger than bytes and bits.

“We are an integral part of the hospital’s overall mission,” says Leigh Ann Griffin, project management lead.  “For example, we are currently working on developing and installing a new financial system. And, we are carrying this out as members of a multi-functional, multi-disciplinary team. As a result, we get an up-close look at how our work truly contributes to the success of the hospital.”

Indeed, IT staff members don’t just support others in the hospital – they work shoulder-to-shoulder to move the hospital toward meeting its overall goals.

In addition to working on interdisciplinary teams, IT staff members are encouraged to make individual contributions to the greater good.

“The staff is not micromanaged. Instead, we have created a self-motivating culture where staff are empowered to make choices and decisions that can help to move projects toward success,” says Tiffany Bennett, information systems director.
