Westmead Children’s Hospital was the first Australian pediatric hospital to implement PACS, and now it has reached a new IT milestone with its implementation of Mach7 Technologies’ Keystone Suite.

The Enterprise Clinical Imaging Platform provides Westmead with a unique solution that enables the hospital’s imaging department to access teaching library cases. Westmead is one of the main Teaching Units for Pediatric Radiology of the University of Sydney and is committed to enriching the education of hospital staff. The Keystone Suite furthers this commitment, allowing staff to learn from the clinical resources available via the solution.

In collaboration with Mach7, Westmead installed and configured the Keystone Engine to encrypt patient identifiers as clinical data is transmitted from the department to the teaching files and archive. Interesting cases are selected from the department’s PACS and sent through the Keystone Suite. Important images can then be exported to any external media. Images are sometimes accompanied by PDF or Word documents with relevant data for teachers and students.

The Keystone Suite also serves to store clinical images and make them available for viewing by all staff specialists.

“The Keystone Suite platform expanded the resources available to our educational organization. More importantly, the sophisticated technology enables us to ensure security and privacy of pediatric patient information” said Robert Howman-Giles, Director of Nuclear Medicine at Westmead.
