Quality Systems, Inc. announced Wednesday its acquisition of North Canton, Ohio-based Matrix Management Solutions, a deal officials say will bolster the growth of its NextGen Practice Solutions technology.

Matrix Management Solutions is a value-added reseller for NextGen Healthcare, a subsidiary of Quality Systems. It has provided revenue cycle management (RCM) services, healthcare IT and support for NextGen technology to its clients since 1998.

Quality Systems officials say this acquisition will enable NextGen Practice Solutions to expand its footprint among private and hospital-based physicians and groups by leveraging Matrix’s RCM expertise. NextGen Practice Solutions partners with more than 5,000 providers to optimize their use of the NextGen product suite with customizable revenue cycle management services such as billing and collection, eligibility verification, account management and data analytics.

Upon completion of the deal, Sharon Funk, chief operating officer at Matrix Healthcare, will become vice president and general manager at NextGen Healthcare’s North Canton, Ohio facility, officials say. Matrix Management Solutions president Mark Terpylak, MD, will remain with the company to provide support to its customer base and serve in a consulting role.

“As RCM services continue to evolve and expand, it’s critical for healthcare organizations to align with a trusted partner that can deliver real improvements to their bottom line,” said Monte Sandler, executive vice president of NextGen Practice Solutions. “The knowledge and expertise that Matrix provides surrounding NextGen’s technology, coupled with their years of use and seamless integration, is a natural fit for our NextGen Practice Solutions business unit.”

”Matrix has had an exclusive relationship with NextGen since its founding in 1998," said Terpylak. "We have thoroughly enjoyed the partnership and are extremely excited about the synergies this acquisition will offer our current and future customers. As healthcare continues to transform, our collaborative skills will allow NextGen to further assist and support our customers on this journey,"
