The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the scale of the opportunity to leverage innovative digital tools that can optimise patient care with the help of enhanced connectivity and the improved sharing of information and expertise between stakeholders.
Systems that enable collaboration also support hospitals as they manage the challenge of health care professionals’ burnout – a situation that has been worsened by the pandemic. An Italian study from May 2020 revealed that nearly half of healthcare staff suffer from post-traumatic stress symptoms, and almost 25 percent have symptoms of depression.
The benefits of providing healthcare professionals with real-time access to a greater range of data are reflected in many ways, from better informed and quicker diagnosis to the enabling of personalised treatment pathways. Hospitals are also achieving efficiency improvements and more streamlined allocation of resources as digital tools enable new workflows and virtual teamwork in the procedure room.
Capturing the power of video
At HIMSS22 Europe (14 -16 June), Olympus will showcase new labelling functionality within VaultStream, its medical content management system. This feature was jointly developed with Oslo University Hospital and paves the way for future utilisation of AI technologies in healthcare.
Shawn LaRocco, VP, global head of business, Customer Solutions at Olympus, says that insights to gain data and AI are the fundamentals for reimagining healthcare: “By leveraging data, we can start really driving the development of Artificial Intelligence. AI Technologies will aid the disease detection and diagnosis improving outcomes and operational efficiencies.”
VaultSteam’s innovative functionalities, AutoClip and AutoLabel, turn the platform into an advanced content management system which supports teaching workflows as well as helping to increase clinical efficiency. AutoClip allows users to create video clips of a procedure at the touch of a button, while AutoLabel enables the further standardisation of labelling clinical images and videos in building up a teaching library.
The company will also demonstrate MedPresence, its secure cloud-based telecollaboration solution, which connects clinical teams virtually, regardless of their location.
Collaboration beyond the walls of operating and procedure rooms
Services such as MedPresence have become increasingly important in helping to reduce the challenges of delivering optimised patient care for a healthcare workforce, removing the physical boundaries of operating and procedure rooms.
To highlight the importance of this topic, Olympus has brought internationally renowned clinician Knut Magne Augestad to HIMSS22 Europe to share his view at the “Bridging Digital Skills Gap” session on 15 June. Prof Augestad, consultant surgeon and head division of surgery at Akershus University Hospital in Norway, will give the clinical stakeholder’s view on the rise in demand for telementoring.
Join Olympus at Booth 512 throughout the 2022 HIMSS European Health Conference & Exhibition in Helsinki, which runs from 14-16 June.
