The ICD-10 On the Go iPhone app, developed by VLR Software, provides a list of all ICD-10 codes and is therefore quite handy, despite its rather flat presentation. The codes are presented in the first screen as a list that has been divided into chapters. Each chapter has a specific set of diseases with the appropriate ICD-10 code. The design of the list is somewhat bland, favoring functionality more than form.
Once the user selects a chapter of codes, the app brings up a list of the codes found in the disease category. Once a disease is selected, the app provides a brief description and the appropriate code.
One of the app's most helpful features is the capability to email codes to other people. This could be of real use if billers have questions about certain codes or simply do not know the actual code for the disease a physician is trying to bill for.
A "favorites" feature allows the user to select "favorite codes" and create a list of codes used most often. This could be practical in specialty settings, where the same codes may be used routinely.
Priced at $0.99, ICD-10 On the Go is a good app, with room for improvement in the presentation of data and the interface.
