NEC Australia has been chosen to set up a wireless network for the new Footscray Hospital.

Operated by Western Health, the $1 billion hospital project will be supplied and installed with CISCO networking, security, data centre infrastructure, and telephony systems facility.

Through wireless technologies, according to NEC, the new Footscray Hospital will be enabled to deliver solutions for improving patient care and operational efficiency.

THE LARGER TREND

Founded in the 1950s, the new Footscray Hospital is being upgraded in anticipation of growing healthcare service demand over the next two decades. Having an additional 200 beds, it will be able to later accommodate 15,000 more patients each year. 

Alongside increasing its capacity, the hospital's digital capability is also being raised. Last year, the new Footscray Hospital awarded a contract to Hills Limited to deliver the Nurse Call platform by its digital health arm, Hills Health Solutions.

The hospital's construction, which is being delivered by Plenary Health and partner Multiplex, is targeted to be completed by 2025.
