Health Catalyst, a Utah-based healthcare data and analytics company, announced this week that it intends to acquire the interoperability and population health vendor KPI Ninja.
The deal, said the companies in a statement, is intended to increase speed and cost efficiency for customers seeking data-driven insights.
"Both Health Catalyst and KPI Ninja share a common vision of advancing health care through arming health with data-driven insights," said Vineeth Yeddula, CEO of KPI Ninja, in a statement.
"By combining our technologies, we make a giant step toward advancing our shared vision," Yeddula said.
WHY IT MATTERS
The financial details of the deal were not made public, and Health Catalyst did not respond to requests for comment.
However, Health Catalyst CEO Dan Burton noted that the company looks forward "to welcoming every current KPI Ninja team member."
Health Catalyst says KPI Ninja's event-driven data processing capabilities naturally complement its Data Operating System Platform, allowing customers to build and customize new services, clinical software and operational tools around their core care systems.
The company also points to KPI Ninja's potential as an eHealth Exchange Validated Product to bolster Health Catalyst's existing data processing capabilities from sources inside and outside of the hospital, along with maximizing functionality of its Analytics Applications layer.
"We are committed to supporting, as the top-priority, the current team's efforts to continue to deliver these tremendous solutions, consistently, and without interruption or disruption, to KPI Ninja's current clients," said Burton.
THE LARGER TREND
After its long-waited initial public offering in July 2019, Health Catalyst then-Chief Financial Officer Patrick Nelli said the industry was in its "early innings" when it came to digitization.
"A lot of our customers have only had information in a digital format available to them over the last several years. So that means we are just scratching the surface when we think about these types of various use-cases for using data to help these organizations drive improvements," Nelli, now the company's president, told Healthcare IT News.
Since then, the company has continued to grow, offering systems and services in response to COVID-19 and unveiling a new range of tools in early 2021 meant to help customers tackle revenue, cost and quality challenges.
In addition, it has acquired a spate of other companies, including Twistle, healthfinch, Vitalware and Able Health.
ON THE RECORD
"KPI Ninja's powerful and flexible event-driven streaming capability strengthen our ability to offer innovative solutions within the healthcare data and analytics technology ecosystem and our ability to support healthcare organizations on their clinical, financial, and operational improvement journeys," said Health Catalyst's Burton in a statement.
