Healthcare ICT solutions provider Ascom has clinched a multi-million US dollar contract to install a nurse call and patient response solution in an unnamed hospital in the Macao Special Administrative Region of China.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT

Ascom will bring its Telligence Nurse Call system, in partnership with Mega Datatech, a systems integrator based in the region, to the hospital over a two-year delivery period.

Ascom Telligence provides a comprehensive view of patients' status that "goes beyond the traditional nurse call," the company described in a statement.

The system leverages nurse call infrastructure, which is enhanced with communication and documentation tools. It allows quick charting via Ascom TelliConnect for easy access to EMR and other relevant information. The system also features real-time locating system services; SafeConnect magnetic plugs to safely connect auxiliary devices to the Telligence system; as well as in-room presence automatic capture and nurse recording recognition.

The product can either be a standalone nurse call system or an integrated end-to-end patient response solution.

WHY IT MATTERS

Ascom Telligence will be delivered for 1,400 beds in both inpatient and outpatient facilities of the said client hospital that recently opened in Macao. This will enable caregivers to be better informed and in a timelier manner when responding to patient requests and critical situations, the ICT provider said.

THE LARGER CONTEXT

Ascom mentioned in an e-mail interview that they have made similar Telligence installations in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia this year. In the coming months and years, the company will be bringing the solution to more Southeast Asian locations and also to Australia.

In other news, Ascom announced in June that it partnered with Adelaide-based Ikonix Technology to offer its range of healthcare technology products, including the Telligence system, in South Australia. Last year, it made Security Communications Australasia its channel partner to sell the Ascom Enterprise Platform to retail, hospitality and other industrial sectors.

ON THE RECORD

"Winning Ascom’s largest-ever nurse call order is another proof point not only for Ascom’s world-leading technology and solutions capabilities but also underlines the continued progress made by our Asia team in developing the region with flagship clients. Ascom’s three largest nurse call clients globally are now all in Asia and we look forward to further supporting clients particularly in China with our local team and strong partners," said Ascom CEO Jeannine Pilloud.

"With a long history in the nurse call market, Ascom complements our solution offering with their healthcare ICT expertise from different sites around the globe. Together with Ascom, I believe we will make a positive impact on the mission to close digital information gaps, allowing for the best possible clinical decisions by the healthcare providers in [Macao]," Mega Datatech General Manager Derek Kuan also stated.
