Epic will launch EpicShare, aimed at providing a space for decision-makers to learn and share tips about health IT, at the 2021 HIMSS Global Health Conference and Exhibition in Las Vegas this year.
The new site, available at EpicShare.org, is intended to offer insights and details on healthcare organizations' experiences so that other groups can replicate what works well.
"Every day we hear about the impressive ways healthcare organizations use technology to improve health outcomes for patients, strengthen their communities, and reduce the cost of care," said Eric Helsher, vice president of customer success at Epic.
The site will also include editorials from executives, curated news articles and stories from Epic CEO Judy Faulkner.
"EpicShare brings the best of these strategies and insights together every week so that healthcare leaders can learn from each other and replicate successful approaches," Helsher added.
Epic will also feature updates at the conference from its Epic Health Research Network, which publishes insights from its HIPAA-limited Cosmos data set from more than 113 million patients.
Recent studies include research on so-called long COVID, the prevalence of at-risk people who obtain lung cancer screening, and whether individuals' weight changed during the pandemic.
At the HIMSS21 booth, Epic will also offer a "feature wall" discussing the vendor's efforts toward interoperability.
"Out of the box, all of our customers are connected with 100% of each other, as well as every other system that has joined Carequality," said an Epic spokesperson.
"Combined, they exchange over 8.5 million records every day, with around 50% of those exchanges occurring with other vendor systems," the spokesperson added.
Attendees can also learn about the company's moves around patient access.
"Epic was an early adopter of FHIR, beginning several years ago with the Argonaut project and continuing today," said a spokesperson. "A full suite of FHIR resources is available to our customers, and patients choose which third-party apps they’d like to share data with, using open standards."
Other featured areas will focus on population health, comprehensive health records, and Epic's data and analytics platform, Cogito.
Overall, an Epic spokesperson said they hope attendees' takeaway from HIMSS is that Epic goes beyond EHR software alone.
"Our technology connects the world of healthcare to advance prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research," they said. "These connections were crucial in helping our customers and their communities address COVID-19 issues over the past year."
Epic will be in Booth 4432 at HIMSS21 in Las Vegas.
