Healthgrades this week named more than 400 hospitals to its 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award class, highlighting those facilities and systems that perform above their peers when it comes to limiting deadly medical errors and other preventable patient harm incidents.

Based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Healthgrades said it has identified the top 10 percent of facilities when it comes to patient safety. Also, Healthgrades said 134,568 patient safety events could have been avoided if all hospitals performed like the winners did.
