Two Adventist Health System hospitals earn HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 7
Two hospitals in Florida-based Adventist Health system have been recognized with HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 7: Florida Hospital Waterman received its first EMRAM Stage 7, and Florida Hospital Carrollwood received an EMRAM Stage 7 revalidation.
Florida Hospital Waterman is a 269-bed acute care facility in Taveres Florida and implemented its EMR system in 2006 to improve quality and safety of patient care.
The organization implemented an Acute Physiology Age Chronic Health (APACHE) tool, which provides a visual of a patient's health status and prognosis, while improving documentation and providing support after discharge, according to John H. Daniels, global vice president, healthcare advisory services group, HIMSS Analytics.
"Florida Hospital Waterman is making great use of their EMR capabilities, especially when it comes to a holistic care team approach," said Daniels.
Of Waterman's achievement of Stage 7, Florida Hospital Waterman's President and CEO David Ottati, said in a statement that it "further demonstrates Florida Hospital Waterman's commitment to integrate technology and teamwork to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care we provide our patients. We're utilizing these advances to better engage physicians, the patient, their loved ones and caregivers in a care plan that ultimately results in safer, more efficient, cost effective care for our patients."
Florida Hospital Carrollwood, a 120-bed community hospital in Tampa, received two 'A' grades for patient safety in 2015 and 2016. The organization uses technology for constant patient surveillance and prompt identification of possible infection risks. Further, the hospital has a 'strong chain of communication.'
The Stage 7 award highlights the organization's use of analytics for its infection-prevention program, according to Daniels. "They've used analytics to implement EMR process interventions that have resulted in a significant decrease in the number of infections over the last year."
"They're not focused on the information technology itself; they're focused on how best to use it to drive improvements across the organization," he added.
"I'm incredibly proud of our team here," Florida Hospital Carrollwood's CEO and President Joe Johnson said in a statement, "and the continued efforts each member has made to enhance and improve upon our already strong focus on quality and patient safety. Integrating technology to enhance our evidence-based, best-practice medicine ensures our patients receive the best care possible."
The hospitals will be recognized in a cermony at HIMSS17, which takes place Feb. 19-23, 2017 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
