Health information technology company iSoft has announced that Klinikum Saarbrücken will become the fifth early adopter site in Germany for its Lorenzo next-generation solution, as part of a EUR1.08 million deal for a hospital information system.

Under the three-year contract, iSoft will this year install its ClinicCentre HIS solution, and gradually replace individual modules with Lorenzo functionality as it becomes available.

Replacement of the hospital's existing Nexus inpatient system with iSoft's ClinicCentre solution is due to be completed in September this year.

The first Lorenzo component is expected to be installed in 2010. Based on Lorenzo technology, the iSoft Collaboration Suite (iCS) portal will allow GPs access to hospital patient records using standard Web browsers.

Lorenzo is a next-generation suite of healthcare applications based on service-oriented architecture. iCS allows the secure exchange of patient information between care providers to improve collaboration between care teams.

Klinikum Saarbrücken, an existing customer for iSoft's RadCentre radiology information system, said the company's past performance was an important factor in its decision after considering rival bids.

Other Lorenzo early adopters in Germany are Aachen, Leipzig, Krankenhaus Buchholz and Winsen.
