Day three of HIMSS10 gets under way with a Keynote address by David Blumenthal, MD, only hours after ONC announced the proposed rule on certification of healthcare IT. He remarked on the progress he's seen in healthcare IT during his life as a practicing physician. Regarding the sharing of data, Blumenthal said the NHIN is a "critical element of the future of health information exchange."

On the eve of day three, the HIT Men and Women Awards reception honored 15 innovative and creative leaders in healthcare IT. The event, here represented by its Mad Men-themed logo, was held at the Atlanta Ritz Carlton.
Jonathan Bush, CEO of athenahealth and one of the night's feted award recipients, dons a pair of the Wayfarer-style sunglasses given as party favors.
Glen Tullman, CEO of Allscripts, was also among the IT vendors who received the award this year.
