Philips expands IT department with new acquisition
In an effort to boost its healthcare IT department, Philips Royal Electronics has finalized the acquisition of Brazil-based software provider Wheb Sistemas, which has completed more than 280 software implementations in healthcare facilities across Brazil.
Tom Andriola, general manager of healthcare IT for Philips, said that his company's goal is to simplify the clinical processor for physicians.
"Our target companies have strong clinical sides," said Andriola. "We focus on these companies in order to build on our intent to save lives. They're IT companies, yes, but they have a clinical focus, allowing us to simply clinical processes."
Andriola said the motivator behind this acquisition, and others to come, was the need to build up Philips' healthcare departments. "We see a healthcare transformation coming in these growing countries. Philips' mission is to enhance the quality of care and Wheb Sistemas is helping us to do that."
Philips is currently looking at more vendor acquisitions for future company growth but no specific details were given.
