Orange Regional Medical Center achieved Stage 7 of the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model known as EMRAM, the organizations announced on Tuesday.

The 383-bed academic medical center in Middletown, NY, is the second in two days to make it to the top. HIMSS Analytics announced Monday the University of Cincinnati Medical Center had earned a Stage 7 award.

“Orange Regional Medical Center has made great progress in a very short time,” said John H. Daniels global vice president of healthcare advisory services at HIMSS Analytics.

Daniels pointed to the implementation of a predictive clinical decision support algorithm directly into the EHR to help physicians with precise insulin dosing as one example. The result: ORMC eliminated severe hypoglycemia cases and, perhaps more important, is saving lives by reducing inpatient mortality among diabetics.

“This is a data-driven organization,” Daniels said. “And it shows.”

HIMSS Analytics developed the EMRAM in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics database.

It’s a coveted honor. During the fourth quarter of 2015, only 4.2 percent of the more than 5,400 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics LOGIC database received the Stage 7 Award.

“We are extremely honored to have achieved the Stage 7 milestone, which further demonstrates our commitment to improving the health of our community – our primary mission,” ORMC CEO Scott Batulis said in a statement.

ORMC will be recognized at the 2017 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on Feb. 19-23, 2017, in Orlando, Florida.
