The North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System has taken the first step toward a shared-enterprise electronic medical record across its entire health system.

Executives at North Shore-LIJ announced that they have successfully activated integrated modules of Sunrise Clinical Manager from the Atlanta-based Eclipsys Corporation. The activation occurred on time and on-budget at Long Island Jewish Hospital, Schneider Children's Hospital and Zucker Hillside Hospital.

North Shore-LIJ is the nation's third-largest non-profit secular healthcare system, with a service area of 5.2 million people in Long Island, Queens and Staten Island. It is the largest employer on Long Island, with about 37,500 employees, 8,000 physicians and 10,000 nurses.

"We are very excited about the prospect of having an enterprise clinical information solution across our entire health system and Eclipsys has proven to be a great partner, helping us complete the first phase so successfully," said John Bosco, chief information officer at North Shore-LIJ.

Bosco said Long Island Jewish Hospital recently opened a new Emergency Department and simultaneously activated Sunrise Emergency Care software and its Triage, Tracking and Disposition modules.
