New 'Topics' menu to offer deeper content dives
It's now easier than ever for Healthcare IT News readers to find information on ARRA, electronic health records, ICD-10 and many other key subjects, thanks to a new website navigation that enables topic-specific content browsing.
The 20 new "Topics" pages accessible in the site's navigation menu replace the five primary "Sections" (Industry News, Hospitals & IDNs, Physician Practices & Ambulatory Care, Payers, Vendors). These Sections are still available to visitors via active links and bookmarks, but will no longer be surfaced on the main navigation.
"Since we launched the Healthcare IT News website in 2003, we've aligned our content with the most important day-to-day interests of our readers," said Jack Beaudoin, President of MedTech Media. "Readers can now access news and resources pertinent to a specific thread of interest for their profession, making the website a more rewarding and engaging environment. Topics will be especially valuable as we roll out a multi-platform strategy that includes email notifications and mobile alerts -- two ways in which readers have indicated they'd like to receive news on certain topics," he added.
Beaudoin noted that the transition reflects changes at other leading online news websites, both in the business and consumer news realms. USA Today recently announced a similar change in the categorization of its content.
The Topics menu is now active in the site's main navigation, accessible on every page. Hovering over this menu reveals the 20 Topics, which lead to pages displaying all the most recent content for that Topic. Find examples here and here.
The full list of Topics, which also appear in Resource Central, consists of: ARRA, Business Intelligence, Claims Processing, Data Warehousing, Document Management, EDIS, Electronic Health Records, Enterprise Resource Planning, ePrescribing, Financial/Revenue Cycle Management, Health Information Exchange (HIE), ICD-10, Mobile Computing, Network Infrastructure, Privacy and Security, Quality and Safety, RIS and PACS, RTLS, Staffing and Outsourcing, and Telehealth.
Healthcare IT News plans to refine and adjust this list of Topics on an ongoing basis. The site's staff welcomes reader input on the Topics menu.
