Modernizing Medicine highlights new surgery center suite, imminent practice management tools
LAS VEGAS -- Modernizing Medicine is showcasing a recently released surgery center suite of systems and forthcoming practice management tools at HIMSS16.
The Modernizing Medicine practice management system currently is in beta testing. The vendor said it intends to make the system commercially available this summer. Vendor executives at HIMSS16 will premiere elements of the system, which will target ASCs and dermatology, gastroenterology and orthopedics practices, specialty areas for the vendor.
Modernizing Medicine is also showing recent enhancements to its ASC suite of systems following the late 2015 acquisition of gMed, a vendor of ASC and gastroenterology EHR and practice management systems.

In 2016, Modernizing Medicine plans to continue its work moving forward in the clinical specialty areas in which it specializes as a vendor.
“We will go beyond EHRs and prove our understanding of the unique needs of these specialty markets,” said Dan Cane, CEO of Modernizing Medicine. “We have our employees focused them on building additional products and services for these specialties.”
The company will stay focused on surgical and medical specialties, building products and services that meet their needs, which are divergent from other medical specialties and from primary care and internal medicine, Cane added.
“Dermatology is incredibly different from gastroenterology when it comes to revenue cycle management, for instance,” he said. “The billing is different and the flow of information is different. In gastroenterology, a patient might be seen in an office and then have a procedure in an ambulatory surgery center. There is a lot of nuance in the specialties we serve, and we have been able to differentiate our products and services.”
Modernizing Medicine also just announced it has joined CommonWell Health Alliance as a contributor member. CommonWell is a nonprofit trade association focused on cross-vendor interoperability that enables provider access to health data regardless of where care occurs.
