Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital in Brockton, Mass., has implemented a new order set solution in hopes of providing point-of-care access to evidence-based order sets.

“Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital prides itself on the quality of care we provide our patients,” said Marc Greenwald, the hospital's chief of medicine. “The addition of ProVation Order Sets will enhance our care delivery system and facilitate improvements in clinical performance, quality, patient safety and regulatory compliance.”

The hospital is deploying ProVation Order Sets, an electronic order set developed by Philadelphia-based Wolters Kluwer Health. Hospital officials expect the solution will provide physicians with bedside access to accurate, evidence-based order sets and clinical decision support tools.

Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital is a 268-bed, not-for-profit teaching facility with a staff of more than 550 providers and 2,500 employees.

The solution will be integrated with the hospital’s CPOE system, officials said.

“The new solution allow us to maximize our investment in CPOE by empowering our clinicians to make the best decisions for the best patient outcomes,” said Craig Fletcher, the hospital's chief information officer.. “By automating the authoring and management process and providing easy access to trusted supporting evidence, we expect ProVation Order Sets will also facilitate greater physician adoption of order sets and streamline clinician workflow.”

“ProVation Order Sets offers automatic linking to evidence from a wide range of sources, including UpToDate, the resource of choice for more than 360,000 physicians,” said a ProVation official.

UpToDate is designed to enable physicians to make more informed decision at the point of care, according to Wolters Kluwer officials. The tool covers close to 8,000 topics in 14 medical specialties, includes more than 80,000 pages of text and graphics and links to more than 260,000 references and a drug data base for prescribing appropriate medication. The material is reviewed by physician editors and authors.

“Together, ProVation Order Sets and UpToDate can form the backbone of an institution’s clinical decision support system, improving patient care and health outcomes through easy access to medical evidence and standardized care plans,” said Arvind Subramanian, president and CEO of Wolters Kluwer Health Clinical Solutions.
