The IEEE Computer Society and the Personal Connected Health Alliance revealed plans to co-host an event at HIMSS17 focusing on Blockchain in healthcare.

Blockchain has gained attention as the next frontier in healthcare that will both solve some interoperability challenges and more effectively secure patient data.

The day-long “Blockchain in Healthcare, a Rock Stars of Technology Event,” will include experts addressing use-cases and opportunities, discusses advances toward safer and more interoperable patient data, and examining practical applications for blockchain in healthcare.

Other topics will include the challenges and opportunities of defining a minimum viable product, smart contracts, and understanding the hidden cost of trust, IEEE and PCHA said.

Speakers include Kaiser Permanente chief medical information officer John Mattison, MD, Xerox CTO Kenneth Bradberry, Aetna senior security advisor Abbie Barbir, Pokitdok CTO Ted Tanner, GEM CEO Micah Windelspecht.

And representing the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT will be deputy national coordinator Jon White, MD and Steven Posnack, director of the office of standards and technology.

“Blockchain in Healthcare, a Rock Stars of Technology Event,” February 22 from 9:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST in room 414B of the West Concourse.

HIMSS17 runs from Feb. 19-23, 2017 at the Orange County Convention Center.
