HIMSS18 guide to cloud computing sessions

A look at the highlights of what will be among the hottest topics at this year’s health IT conference in Las Vegas.

This year’s health IT conference will feature a number of sessions specific to cloud computing.

Experts will address a range of topics, from security and compliance to artificial intelligence, machine learning to disruptive transformation to clinical decision support, and that is just a start.

Here’s our roundup of cloud computing highlights at HIMSS18.

Cutting Edge Health Technology Compliance Issues: The Double-Edged Sword
This session will discuss being compliant with cloud computing in terms of data analytics and telehealth, as well as the 21st Century Cures Act, medical device security, hacking, protected health information in the software-as-a-service model, including a look at the Health and Human Services guidance. This session is part of a special program called Compliance Symposium: Mastering Compliance: What You Must Know. Extra fees and separate registration are required.

Technology for a Healthier Future: Modernization, Machine Learning, and Moonshots with HIMSS18 Keynote Speaker Eric Schmidt
In the opening keynote of HIMSS18, Eric Schmidt, Technical Advisor and former Executive Chairman of Alphabet (parent company of Google), will discuss the promise and untapped potential for fighting disease and improving health. Schmidt will also share his perspective as a technology veteran about what can be done to speed up progress toward putting technology to its best use to make life better for people all over the planet.

HIPAA Compliance and the Public Cloud at John Muir
Speakers will discuss compliance obstacles common in the public cloud, including data leakage from popular applications, notably Microsoft Office365 or Box and data leakage to social media and other unmanaged consumer applications. They will discuss how John Muir achieves HIPAA compliance in the cloud and, according to the session description, attendees will gain “actionable insights that you can implement immediately.”
