Clearsense, whose platform applications are focused on helping healthcare clients with data governance and analytics, this week announced its partnership and licensing deal with UPMC Enterprises.

WHY IT MATTERS
Working with the venture capital and innovation arm of the Pittsburgh health system, Clearsense will integrate Alexandria Charts, UPMC Enterprises' unstructured data platform, into its own end-to-end platform, which is deployed at more than 400 hospitals nationwide.

Alexandria Charts offers tools designed to help simplify the process of gaining access to patient data captured in unstructured clinical notes, and helping providers use that data for analytics and machine learning models.

The platform has plug-and-play natural language processing engine support and enables clients to more easily aggregate, normalize and transform unstructured data.

By partnering with UPMC Enterprises, Clearsense will collaborate with its engineers and clinicians to integrate Alexandria Charts with Clearsense's Next Generation Data Management and Delivery Platform.

The technology will help its hospital and health system clients enhance and expand the use of patient data for quality improvement and cost-efficiencies, according to Clearsense.

THE LARGER TREND
The company notes that 50% to 80% of patient data exists as unstructured clinical notes.

Artificial intelligence applications can help providers make better use of this data for actionable clinical and operational insights.

In the past, we've shown how health systems such St. Joseph Health have worked with Clearsense for real-time analytics capabilities.

Among UMPC Enterprises' other commercial ventures is Astrata, launched in 2021, which uses advanced analytics and natural language processing to help health insurers to more efficiently analyze unstructured clinical notes.
