The enhanced Healthcare IT session track at the upcoming Citrix Synergy conference, May 12-14 at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, FL, includes six healthcare-specific sessions – to date – featuring customer stories of how Citrix helped them overcome clinical workflow and IT challenges. That’s triple the number of sessions over last year, thanks to demand from customers wanting more engagement with their peers, according to Nitin Sharma, Healthcare Solutions Marketing Manager.

“These customers [who are presenting] have solved strategic problems and shown what Citrix can do in the actual healthcare setting,” Sharma pointed out. With many other customers not yet at that advanced stage, the session presentations will serve as valuable real-world best practices for them.

Clinical mobility and enhanced security, the two areas of emphasis in the sessions, traditionally have been as at odds with one another in the battle to enable clinicians with access to real-time patient information whenever they need it. With the ubiquity of mobile devices in the clinical setting – in many cases with BYOD policies set up by health systems – the need for security and mobility to co-exist while improving clinical workflow has never been greater.

Citrix solutions have enabled the best of both worlds for the session customers. Citrix has been a long-time player in the healthcare industry, but the provider of mobile workspace solutions has evolved alongside the transformation of the industry to offer a full portfolio of solutions, empowering clinical end-users with secure access to all applications and tools through a single point in however manner they choose to work.

In addition to increasing the breadth and depth of its solutions, Citrix is playing an integral role in the new healthcare landscape by helping its customers successfully meet their strategic IT initiatives, including adding new revenue streams and driving cost out of operations. “Costs are rising, and providers need pathways to new revenues,” Sharma said. “Our products and services allow hospitals to be nimble and flexible in this dynamic environment.” Health systems can accelerate the time-to-value for new business ventures, like the acquisition of a new hospital or building a new outpatient facility and rapidly onboarding new employees without risking security.

Healthcare IT solutions from Citrix also allow IT departments to better manage and control their IT operations and therefore drive cost efficiencies, Sharma said. “Citrix allows companies to have a flexible IT infrastructure, with the ability to scale up or down as business requires,” he said. While electronic patient data has grown exponentially, providers’ IT department staff have either shrunken or remained static. With Citrix, IT departments, regardless of size, can provide access for more users to more apps and more data through a secure single point of access and control.

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, based in Baton Rouge, LA, and session presenter Johnny Brister, leverage Citrix to give their clinicians the ability to securely access apps from any device while roaming the health system. Log-in times have been reduced to less than five seconds to simplify workflows and improve satisfaction. While that may not seem significant, the nonprofit, mission-based Catholic health system has reported that faster and improved access to healthcare records saves them $750,000 a year.

“These sessions are really about our customers’ stories,” Sharma emphasized. “They are healthcare leaders in their communities who are achieving their missions by using technology innovation to provide better care for their patients.”
