Broadband grants to help rural healthcare

GREENVILLE, NC - Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin today named the recipients of $417 million in telehealth network grants.

The grants are part of the Rural Health Pilot Program and will be distributed in 42 states and three U.S territories. Martin plans to make the announcement in a presentation at Pitt County Memorial Hospital here.

Martin plans to formally announce the awards at a ceremony at Pitt County Memorial Hospital here.

The pilot program is designed to help rural healthcare facilities take advantage of telemedicine programs, electronic health records and other information technology.
