Army veteran joins Optum to support military healthcare
Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General, Patricia Horoho, has joined Optum to lead the company’s efforts to deliver information technology-based support services to active duty military personnel, veterans and their families.
Horoho will be responsible for helping align Optum’s healthcare technology, operations and data analytics offerings with Optum’s government support experience in its efforts to develop products and services for U.S. veterans and military health system.
Horoho was the first woman and the first nurse to hold the position of Army Surgeon General and commanded the U.S. Army Medical Command, a large integrated healthcare organization that provides health services to 3.9 million active and retired personnel, and their families. She was also the first nurse and first woman to serve as commander of the Walter Reed Health Care System.
The 33-year Army veteran also serves as a member of the American Association of Nurse Executives and a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
Eden Prairie, Minnesota-based Optum provides preventive health screenings and assessments to current and former service members as well as leads a collaborative project to update clinical practice guidelines for the departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
Optum is the health services business of UnitedHealth Group.
With Horoho taking the lead, Optum is aligning its healthcare technology, operations and data analytics capabilities with its experience serving government at all levels to develop new products and solutions to meet the unique needs of veterans and the military health system.
