The Victorian Department of Health has chosen Altera Digital Health to implement its HIE solution across the state. 

Based on a media release, the contract is initially for providing a more complete view of patients' public pathology reports via Altera's dbMotion. The solution is an EHR-agnostic, flexible and interoperable platform that aggregates and harmonises clinical information. 

Later, it can be expanded to enable the sharing of other clinical information at the point of care. 

WHY IT MATTERS

The HIE implementation supports a significant programme under Victoria's five-year digital health roadmap, which aims to provide patients with secure and easy access to their health information. 

Such access will also enable clinicians to be better informed, ultimately making clinical decisions and support safer while allowing patient health outcomes to be improved.

Altera has demonstrated similar HIE implementations for similar organisations of such scale around the world.

The first APAC implementation of dbMotion was done at the South West Sydney Primary Health Network, where more than 70 care sites are now connected and sharing thousands of clinical documents via Microsoft Azure cloud. 

Altera's other digital health solutions have also been adopted across Victoria. Late last year, the company completed the rollout of the Sunrise EMR across the Gippsland Health Alliance after finishing the third phase of implementation at ED facilities. Over the next two years, the same EMR solution will be implemented across South Australia's regional hospitals and local health networks. Both Sunrise EMR and PAS have already went live at Lyell McEwin Hospital, a major tertiary hospital in Adelaide.
