MediSecure hackers allegedly leaked data on dark web

In a recent update, e-prescription platform MediSecure disclosed that it received information that its stolen data set was allegedly found on a dark web forum.

It has urged the public to "not go looking for this data." "Accessing stolen sensitive or personal information on the dark web only promotes future cyber criminal activities against Australian businesses."

The National Cyber Security Coordinator has also been made aware of this "unwelcome development." "We are working with MediSecure to verify the data that has been posted online," it said in a separate statement.

On 16 May, the company, which previously provided e-prescription delivery for Australian healthcare providers nationwide, found itself in a "large-scale" ransomware attack. It later confirmed that hackers have pilfered data relating to prescriptions and personal information of healthcare providers from its systems up until November 2023.

The present national e-prescription delivery service, which is now being delivered by Fred IT's eRx since May, has not been affected by the data breach, the Department of Home Affairs assured.

Primary Health Tasmania enables eReferrals for Aboriginal services

Primary Health Tasmania, the primary health network in Tasmania, is helping digitise the process of providing specialist referrals for Aboriginal healthcare services.

In March, it piloted the integration of HealthLink SmartForms with Telstra Health's Communicare patient information platform used across Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and Aboriginal medical services. This allows clinicians to input patient information into referral forms that can then be sent electronically to specialists.

According to Telstra Health, its Communicare solution is used in seven out of 10 Aboriginal medical services across the country.

From June, other states are expected to follow suit with the SmartForms integration with Communicare, except Queensland which runs its statewide eReferrals system.

New waitlist feature launched on Healthengine

Healthengine has introduced a new waitlist functionality on its consumer healthcare platform.

The feature helps simplify the waitlist process by providing patients with the ability to add themselves to an online waitlist through the same booking form and by allowing practices to turn cancellations into appointments.

"Our new Waitlist functionality is simple for patients to add themselves to and for practices across GP, Dental, and Allied Health to manage and close booking gaps quickly," CEO Dan Stinton further explained.

The feature is included for free in Healthengine's GP complete product.
