Waikato, Thames Hospitals implement Altera's anaesthesia info management system

Altera Digital Health announced the launch of its anaesthesia information management system across the Waikato and Thames hospitals of Te Whatu Ora in New Zealand. 

This comes a year after the company bagged the contract to deliver the anaesthesia solution, the cloud-based Provation iPro. It includes pre-admission testing, IntraOp, acute pain management, post anaesthesia care unit and analytics. 

First go-live of HIVE in regional WA

WA Health has started expanding its remote monitoring technology, Health in a Virtual Environment (HIVE), to regional communities with a first go-live at the Kalgoorlie Health Campus High Dependency Unit.

HIVE provides 24/7 monitoring of vulnerable patients powered by remote monitoring technology and AI. It has a two-way audio-visual function that supports on-ground doctors and nurses who are attending to deteriorating patients. 

"In Kalgoorlie, we expect the highly advanced system will help reduce lengths of stay and potential readmissions and support care [in the] country and close to home for our sickest patients," WA Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said.

University of Sydney launches VR, AI facility for health students

The University of Sydney has opened a new learning facility at the Westmead Innovation Centre for health students and applied health researchers. 

According to a media release, the new facility will use virtual reality and AI to emulate high-risk scenarios in real-world clinical settings, allowing students to practice skills and decision-making. 

The 1,190 square metre space, which will be a focal point of the Faculty of Medicine and Health’s Western Sydney (Baludarri) Precinct, also features a 16-bed simulation ward, as well as life-like mannequins for training students in high-risk events, such as cardiac arrests or de-escalating aggressive patients. 

Additionally, the facility has a Media Lab and Maker Space which will facilitate collaborations with the health industry. 

MedicAlert introduces QR Code service with SA Ambulance

Not-for-profit group Australia MedicAlert Foundation (MedicAlert) has launched a new QR code service that provides instant access to a patient's critical medical information.

Worn on medical IDs, the QR Code service provides emergency, ambulances, and other health professionals with immediate access to information, such as patient’s age, medical conditions, allergies, medication, special devices, emergency contacts and specialised care instructions.

The QR Code service, developed through a collaboration with SA Ambulance Service, builds on MedicAlert's existing medical ID bracelets and necklaces, which are engraved with some patient details and medical information. It is now being rolled out nationally. 

TeraRecon's advanced visualisation solutions coming to Australia

TeraRecon, a company under medical research tool developer ConcertAI, has expanded its reseller and service deal with health IT provider Change Healthcare to cover the Australian market.

The expanded deal makes Change Healthcare the sole distributor of TeraRecon's advanced visualisation solutions, including its recently launched subscription-based offering, Intuition Titanium. 

Their aim is to make TeraRecon's Best in KLAS-awarded visualisation solutions more available for Australian healthcare providers.
