3 ICD-10 codes more efficient than ICD-9
A lot of noise is made about how many new diagnosis codes will be in play after Oct. 1.
Hopefully by now you're not expecting to learn 68,000 ICD-10 codes. Because you won't have to use them all.
And in some diagnoses, fewer diagnosis codes will be needed. For example, consider 3M's coding challenge using the case of an Oxycodone overdose.
Medical coders will be able to use one ICD-10-CM code to designate the substance and intent in the overdose. Now medical coders need two ICD-9 codes.
And here are a couple more exercises to practice ICD-10 knowledge:
ICD-10: Be Ready for 2 GERD K Codes in October: "Rely on the note to get information you need to choose either K21.0 or K21.9." (From SuperCoder Bolt)
ICD-10-CM/PCS – Part 49: A problem from the Endocrine, Nutritional and Metabolic Diseases chapter. (From Codebusters)
