Beth Israel Deaconess Physician Organization (BIDPO) will roll out analytics software to help its doctors measure clinical performance. The goal is to reduce variations in care – capabilities essential to BIDPO's plans to operate successfully under anticipated state and national payment reform changes.

BIDPO has approximately 1,800 providers and physicians affiliated with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

The physician organization tapped Ingenix for the Ingenix Impact Suite, which provides a broad set of capabilities for accountable care organizations (ACOs) across the country.

The technology will provide BIDPO with a deeper understanding of underlying health trends, comparative efficacy of treatments and quality metrics of care, helping the organization to better coordinate, measure and improve care, Ingenix executives said.

An ACO is a new model for delivering healthcare services that emphasizes collaboration between participating physicians, hospitals and health plans to improve care and service to patients. The ACO model requires that all stakeholders share responsibility for the wellness of patients, as well as associated financial payments.

Ingenix Impact Suite software integrates information from many sources and systems, and provides comprehensive data analytics and reporting capabilities to deliver insights that inform strategies to improve patients' health outcomes.

According to Ingenix, the technology will enable BIDPO's physicians, medical leaders, case managers and directors to:

  • Identify patients who will need the most complex care management and create care intervention strategies to benefit these patients
  • Improve coordination of care
  • Evaluate actual health care delivery against evidence-based medicine guidelines
  • Assess and predict future care delivery resource utilization and costs

"Ingenix is helping the Beth Israel Deaconess Physician Organization measure clinical and operational performance which will enable it to improve quality and reduce cost of patient care," said Dogu Celebi, MD, Ingenix chief medical officer.

"The entire healthcare delivery system is becoming more focused on collaborating and sharing accountability for patient health," said Roberta Zysman, executive director, Beth Israel Deaconess Physician Organization. "Ingenix's software will help us develop insights from our clinical data to support this transition – including our future efforts to create an ACO with our clinical partners--by providing our physicians with valid clinical data that helps them understand how to make quality and cost improvements in the care they provide, and that complements the data management capabilities we've developed with Healthcare Data Services, LLC."

In addition to Ingenix Impact Suite solutions, Ingenix provides a comprehensive range of consulting services, health IT and analytics services to support the establishment of ACOs and other coordinated care models.
