Health Datapalooza IV kicked off June 3 in Washington, D.C., and featured keynote speakers such as athenahealth CEO Jonathan Bush, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Harvard Medical School Professor Atul Gawande and UK Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius concluded her speech with a commendation to some 1,000 health data and technology audience members: "You have inspired enormous transformation throughout the marketplace and throughout the delivery system."

This will be "the most amazing decade in the history of healthcare," Krein told a packed audience. In addition to cofounding StartUp Health, which represents more than 1,000 healthcare entrepreneurs, investors and health professionals, Krein is also on the Health Datapalooza planning committee.

Hunt kicked off his speech by saluting the United States' decision to provide universal health coverage to its citizens.

"We've lost joy in taking care of patients. It's not just being able to track that we're making their outcomes go well but this is work that's actually feasible and even joyous to do. Saving people's lives should be a joy," Gawande said to the conference attendees.
