Epic founder Judy Faulkner is one of the latest billionaires to sign on to The Giving Pledge, the initiative launched by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to encourage entrepreneurs to donate more than half of their wealth to charity.

Faulkner, whose net worth is estimated at around $2.7 billion, is going even further than that – promising more than 99 percent of her wealth to philanthropic causes.

"Epic needs to be strong, successful, and financially secure so that we can continue to support the healthcare community and build creative solutions for the future," she wrote in a letter earlier this spring. "But I never had any personal desire to be a wealthy billionaire living lavishly."

Instead, Faulkner says her estate plan puts the money from her Epic shares into a foundation, which will give money toward causes such as reducing disparities of care.
